About Fragmented Glass

Hi my name is Anthony Chilver and I am Fragmented Glass. With over 20 years experience covering all aspects of Stained and Architectural Glass from consultation and design through to installation, Fragmented Glass can offer a full in-house service. Blending both contemporary and traditional stained glass techniques, I design and create glass art that attempts to show the hidden and beautiful qualities of glass.

I first came across glass when I went to the then Chelsea School of Art now the Chelsea College of Art & Design way back in the 1980's.
This course has long since gone, unfortunately. I soon developed my love for glass as I was introduced to and began to learn the craft of Stained Glass. As my knowledge grew I pushed on into glass sculpture. I was fascinated by the play of light on the edges of glass and soon started to design sculptures that utilised this by displaying the broken edges. I then took this back into stained glass designing panels that had glass strips in which again displayed all the characteristics of the beauty of the edges of glass. These were around 4mm thick and I can hardly believe that I would spend hours cutting thousands of strips for a window design. But that is what dedication is.

Over the years I have had the opportunity to work with many of the contemporary greats in the Art/Glass world. People like Brain Clarke, Graham Jones, Patrick Reyntiens and Sandra Blow to name but a few. Along with these artists I got to work on many of the UK's biggest glass projects running most of them as site studio manager, a fantastic learning experience.

So what is happening right now. Well having been in the Metropolis for many years the time came to move away. So a new purpose built studio is in the planning and as a first step Fragmented Glass has been relocated to the West Sussex area. In the meantime work goes on and I continue to design and create glass art that I hope will inspire and enchant.
